A small Hike!

The weather has been so horrible, that we just had to get out a bit...so we went to a local lake and took a little hike around. We were out for about an hour before it started to rain again, but at least we made it out for a while, right?

We say some geese on the water and one that we think may have been sitting on some eggs.
Cullen took this pic of the ground...he said that the lighter discolored part looks like the moon. Can you see it???

Hail!

The weather has been super crazy here lately...
Last week it was the flooding with over 10 inches of rain here in just a couple of days...
It was pretty wicked, some really serious water. We have lived here in MO for 13 years and this was the worse flooding I have seen...but it is over and well today...Hail...just a bit of rain (thank goodness, cause we are super soaked up) but the hail was pretty bad...it started out small, like little chips and such, then it went to tiny balls...
I thought it was going to stop then after a minute or two, it started again and bigger, small marble size...and lots of it. It started to cover the ground quickly. The hail started to get a bit bigger, about large marble size or a bit bigger... then as quickly as it started, it stopped.
I would have posted some pics, but it was dark by the time it stopped and I wasnt heading out in all that hail mess.

Selling Rabbits, a family thing.

Selling rabbits each spring is a real family adventure for us. We usually have anywhere from 15-30 baby rabbits to sell each spring for the Easter season. The kids get right out there and help us out, because we usually use the money for season passes to one of the area amusement parks. Last year was six flags, this year, silver dollar city. We started this weekend and only sold a couple...it was freezing out and the kids got cold and discouraged, so we came home early, but it all counts to the good. This is Simone and Kenny sitting in the back of the durango "looking " for potential customers, don't they look thrilled??? Anyone want an Easter Bunny????

Blooming Spring

Well it is starting to look a lot like Spring here in Missouri. The daffodils are blooming and they are so pretty too. The weather here to day was absolutely wonderful and up in the mid 70's.
These are some of my most favorite flowers...but I am partial to any thing that is yellow really. The best part is that they are coming out and it means Spring starting to bloom! These daffodils are only 3 years old and are a great addition to our homestead but they are also a great indicater of spring .

Some of our hard work!

Well, here is a bit of our hard work...this is our new garlic bed. It is 6 ft by 6 ft square. The old bed was falling apart and needed an "update". We cleaned it out and planted the garlic.
The chicken tractor. Well this is a nice one. We have 3 hens and 1 roo in the tractor. It is small enough to pull around our yard and let them eat up the grass and bugs and hopefully lay eggs too.
Now here you have our 8 new raised beds and 3 of the 4 "animal" pens that we have made so far. They are 4 ft by 8 ft. We will grow in 4 beds at a time, with the rabbits or quail living over the other 4, fertilizing them for free all year. We will switch the beds each year.

The Eagle

We were thrilled with the Eagle. It is the second time we spotting it. This first picture is of the Eagle nest that is at Montauk State Park in Missouri. The park is only about 20 minutes away from us and we are regulars there. We have acted as campground hosts and camp their throughout the year. During our last camping trip, we were on the lookout for the Eagle for several days. I know where his nest is, but didn't actually spot him until the last day and well, this is what we saw...
high up in the sky, flying right over us! We were thrilled to death to see it. We just wanted to share this awesome and wonderful event with everyone else.

From 70 to 30 and falling!!!!!!!

Wow folks, you know what they say about Missouri and the weather...just hang around and it will change on a dime! and boy does that work for now.

Yesterday was a wonderful spring like day and it actually made it up to about 70 degrees...wow it was awesome. We worked outside all day and got so much done.

Well today is a totally different case...we woke up to 36 degrees or so and it has come down throughout the day ... it is now 30 degrees and will fall to 20. It makes it all the worse since yesterday was so beautiful.

In our area, we are expecting 6-12 inches of snow too!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yesterday they said "bit of freezing rain, some snow flurries, a bit of sleet...and now up to 12 inches of snow!!!!!!!!!! Boy what a bit of a change.

Short sleeves yesterday, wool undies the next!!!! Gotta love Missouri...or not, lol!
