Our Sunday drive

We decided to take a little "drive" around after the bad weather and here are some pics of what we saw. Here is a tree blown over in a field...there were about 5 of them all in one area from the storm (leftover Ike).
We has a lot of rain in a short amount of time and there were several roads with water over them...this pic shows one...and the rain had stopped several hours by this time.
I took this pic as we were driving...I was happy it showed, cause we were actually moving quite fast. It was a beautiful site with the sun peaking through the clouds... When my dd was about 3 or 4 years old, and it had been raining...and we saw a similar view as this, she told me that "that was God peeking down from heaven, checking on us." Every time I see the suns rays shining through like this, it reminds me of that. It is funny what little kids say.
This big hornets nest was hanging from a limb over the road. We stopped to take a picture, but didn't stay long, lol. It was a big one, that is for sure, but we are not very close it it.

Missouri Winds...Leftovers from Ike

Well, even thought we are in Missouri, we had some pretty strong straight line winds here from the left overs of hurrican Ike... No real damage to us at all, but grandma has a very large oak tree go over with the winds. The over saturation of the ground, from all of the excess rains didn't hurt the matter either. The pic is of my dd and dogs sitting on the "tree".
This is dd again, climbing up in the tree...
Here is a pic of the roots that were pulled up when the tree with over...you can see the water on the ground...it quit raining many hours before this pic was taken...but the ground was just so saturated.

Outdoor Cooking!

This is my husbands version of making flat bread. He has them on the gas grill, on a pizza stone, cooking up outside. They were delicious. We also cooked some chicken, porksteaks and some port tenderloin on a wood fire in the fire pit. Cooking outside in such wonderful weather is awesome and keeps the house cool too. We love it.Posted by Picasa

Tasty Dinner

Check it out, we had a wonderful and delicious dinner the other night and I though I would share it with everyone.
Cullen made some oversize flour tortillas and on them we spread some mashed avacado (that I added a bit of lemon juice to) onto them. We took some lettus (from the garden) and some cherry tomatoes and added some vinegrette dressing and tossed, added it to the tortilla then added some chopped grilled chicken breast... YUM!!! The kids do not like avocados so simone used salsa on hers insted and kenny used sour cream...but they all turned out great!!!

Back in the Garden Again!!

We have been working on the garden again...between the rains and the freezing weather that is.

This is a pic of one of my raised beds that have green peas planted in it. We made some "natural" and "recycled" trellises for them out of some old branches that we trimmed off of some trees. The vertical ones have y tips and the horizontal ones lay in the y's. We just pushed them down into the ground one at a time and it worked out well for us.

This is my hard working husband, who is tilling more of our garden up. We planted peppers in this area today.

Selling Rabbits, a family thing.

Selling rabbits each spring is a real family adventure for us. We usually have anywhere from 15-30 baby rabbits to sell each spring for the Easter season. The kids get right out there and help us out, because we usually use the money for season passes to one of the area amusement parks. Last year was six flags, this year, silver dollar city. We started this weekend and only sold a couple...it was freezing out and the kids got cold and discouraged, so we came home early, but it all counts to the good. This is Simone and Kenny sitting in the back of the durango "looking " for potential customers, don't they look thrilled??? Anyone want an Easter Bunny????
