Oh, they're beautiful!! I absolutely LOVE gardening!
That's about how many I'll get altogether (if that). :( But I'm still proud of them. I have had more success this year than any other. I'll try to get some pics and show you.
Do you ever read my blog? Curious because I've had a bad problem with powdery mildew on my vining plants and I wondered if you knew anything about it. I'm not sure if I need to treat the ground after I get the vines out, or what. I gotta get rid off everything. :( So much for putting it in the compost.
i have read your blog and was going to make a comment before but never have... powdery mildew sucks, lol. I would take about 1 tablespoon of baking soda and a couple drops of dish liquid and mix in a gallon of water and spray the plants and affected areas. You may need to do this more than once. I would also make sure to get rid of all the plants and make sure to rake it out clean when growing season is over. I would also try to not water from the top (if you do that) and try to water earlier in the day so that your plants are dry by evening. The baking soda solution will help change the ph so the mildew will not grow as well. After that I would suggest finding a variety of melons, squash (whatever you have that is being affected) that is resistant to the powdery mildew. A really good seed catalog to get is Johnny's selected seeds. You can google it and request a catalog. It has a lot of great information about varieties that grow in differet conditions, and that are more resisent to different issues. Definitely a must have IMHO. Hope that helps you a bit!
